Research Interest:

Degenerative Myelopathy encompasses a group of chronic, atraumatic spinal cord injuries that can occur from static cord compression (i.e., disc spondylosis, ligamentum flavum hypertrophy, and ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament [OPLL]) or repetitive dynamic injury from hypermobility. Physicians aim to provide the highest quality of health care to their patients. For spine surgeons, treatment goals for most discretionary procedures, such as lumbar decompression for spinal stenosis or spinal fusion for degenerative spondylolisthesis, generally include reducing pain or improving function. The ultimate outcome of treatment depends on a multitude of factors that relate to the choice of treatment, the technical skill of the physicians, and the patients themselves. Patient satisfaction is one measure of outcome that may or may not adequately quantify the benefit received.
